Life recently

Just a post of random happenings in my life...
A painting we found at Burlington Coat Factory for our bedroom..
I decided a few years ago that I needed a painting of a rowboat to put in my bedroom. It ties into one of my favorite songs that deals with marriage. It's called "Will You Row With Me?" and is written by Lynn Perry Christofferson and sung by Jenny Jordan Frogley and John McVey. I love the beautiful analogy of marriage as rowing a boat…
One line says, "There's no motor on this boat, no sail to catch the wind that's blowing, the only way to stay afloat is by two willing people, slowly rowing." And another that I love is "If ever we should start to drift, uncertain where our boat is going, there's no need to abandon ship, but just resume our slow and steady rowing." Oh, if only people understood that's how marriage works!
Anyway, I decided that I wanted to use the rowboat analogy as decor in my bedroom, so I have been looking for a rowboat painting and this one was perfect, even down to the colors! Now I need to put some of the lyrics on a canvas and hang them up. I'm so excited!!
Here are the full lyrics because I want to preserve them and pass them on to my descendants as my marriage counsel! And here is a link to a Youtube video of it...https://youtu.be/4PBr-BYnudA

Will You Row With Me
by Lynn Perry Christofferson
Sung by Jenny Jordan Frogley and John McVey

Will you row with me? Shall we cross the sea together?
Will you go with me on a voyage that will last forever?
Will you sit there by my side, take an oar, and start to pull and glide?
Are you ready for the ride? Will you row with me?

Oh, there's no motor on this boat, no sail to catch the wind that's blowing.
The only way to stay afloat, is by two willing people slowly rowing.

Will you row with me? Shall we cross the sea together?
Will you go with me on a voyage that will last forever?
It may take some time to grow accustomed to the ebb and flow, still I'm hoping you will go.
Will you row with me?

If ever we should start to drift, uncertain where our boat is going,
There's no need to abandon ship. We'll just resume our slow and steady rowing.
Will you row with me?

This isn't a race, so there's no need to be in a hurry,
As long as we can row together it will be a thrilling journey.

Will you row with me? Shall we cross the sea together?
Will you go with me on a voyage that will last forever?
Oh, I need to know. Will you go with me on a voyage?
Will you row?

Spent some time in Feb working at the Book Fair during Parent Teacher Conferences. That's one of my usual volunteer gigs at the elementary school. Maybe once James is in school I can be more involved. Or maybe not. We'll see.

Had to bust out the sewing machine and repair the knees in lots of jeans. Hopefully, they will last to the end of the school year. Then we can cut them off for shorts! I really don't like sewing. As the daughter of a Home Ec teacher, that's blasphemous, but it's true. So I rarely sew, unless it's expedient, which this was. Sew or buy new jeans? That was the question. Sewing won this time!

I've found that with the advent of my smart phone and the ability to read blogs and play games, I just don't read books as much as I used to. I hate that. So I went to the library and I found this book. I have read and loved all of Tony Hillerman's Navajo novels and was sad when he passed away. But it looks like his daughter has taken on his characters and this is the first of her books. And I liked it a lot! I thought she did a great job with it. I loved that it was from a female officer's perspective this time. Maybe I'll start reading paper and ink again!

I wish I knew some of what my ancestors had liked, spent their time doing, or thought deep thoughts about. So, this is random but maybe someday, someone will find it interesting!

Lunch date

Just before the little boys' birthdays Cambria, James and I drove to Blanding to check out the new Shopko Hometown store and see what we could find for birthday gifts. It's a nice store and it's nice to have it as an option rather than always running to Cortez to Walmart.
Before we left Blanding we decided to grab some lunch at the Patio. It was nice to have a little outing with my oldest girl and youngest boy. Life is good!
James enjoying the ice cream that was part of his kids' meal...

made the shopping worth the bother

I'll miss my lunch buddy.

Winter at 7000 feet above Sea Level

We have had a pretty good winter this year and have gotten good amounts of snow…. so needed!

Love when the clouds sink low and cover the mountain in their white blanket...

don't love the COLD that comes with winter. Especially when you add the wind.
12 degrees. Feels like….  -6 degrees! What?!?

However I do like how the wind carves the snow into interesting patterns.
It's like looking at how the wind makes patterns in the sand...

But still. The COLD!
1 degree. Feels like  -13 degrees. Sigh.

Pie face!

We had to go to Spanish Fork for Charles' dentist appointment. It was at 9 in the morning, so we drove as far as Price the night before and stayed at Stacy and Stewart's house. I noticed a stack of games in the corner and one was the new game called PieFace. I mentioned it and before we knew it we had decided to try playing it. I was surprised how simple it was. I thought maybe there were question and answers involved, but, no. You simply pass the machine around, spin the spinner and turn the handles that number of clicks. You never know when it'll release and splat you in the face!
Stacy clicking away...

Charles was much braver than I expected.

Unfortunately, he was the (un)lucky guy this time.

He got it right between the eyes. He was smiling, but then the whipped cream got into his eyes and the tears started. He didn't cry out or fuss but he was done playing this game.

Zoe waiting for the splat

Even Curtis played. Never thought I'd see this!

And he got splatted...

Every time he had a turn! LOL
I got hit twice but have no photographic evidence of it. hee hee hee.

Christmas cactus

I got this Christmas cactus the first Christmas we lived in Monticello from our Home Teacher, Joe. Unfortunately, my kitten almost destroyed it at that time and it has slowly been recovering ever since then. It has developed blossom buds a few times but has rarely bloomed. The buds fall off before it actually blooms. I'm never sure if I'm watering too much or not enough or if its a light issue.
It has grown quite a bit in the six years it's lived with us and looks better this year than it ever has.
AND this year it decided to actually bloom at Christmas! Look at that!
It had three beautiful pink blossoms and we surely enjoyed them. I hope it's not another six years before it decides to bloom at Christmas again. ;)

(I am going to give it a bigger apartment (pot) and see if that makes it happier!)

Thru The Month - June

Random Events and Pictures in June:
Nightly Scripture reading - Charles always has to sit with either Curtis or me, as does James. Sometimes they fight over the same small space. Charles likes to read them off my scripture app.
Picnic lunch at Foy Lake. It was nice just to get out of town and be in nature.
I love that we can so easily and quickly get up in the mountains.
After a short 1 day girls' camp, we loaded up our car and headed to the Welch reunion in Bear Lake.
It was a carload!
We got to eat at Texas Roadhouse. It's my little boys' favorite place to eat. I think they are getting spoiled in all our travels. No McDonald's for them!
Perfect Beach day at Bear Lake!

Took Cambria back to work at Lake Powell-Bullfrog.
Father's Day. Hilarious questionnaires and lemon cake.
Now off to Trek...Aren't they cute?

The boys and I 'trekked' to St. George to see Wendy's family. It was H O T!
Even the water didn't help that much. But we had F U N!

This was a huge moth we found on our roof. I had no idea we had moths that big around here!
Now that we're down to only 5 kids at home, we took the leaf out of the table.
Now it fits in the dining area so much better!

Thru the Month - May

Random events and pictures from May:
The first weekend in May is always the BYU invitational track meet.
I took the other kids and went up for fun. We stayed at the Homestead Resort in Midway.
Cool place for families to stay. We swam, climbed over and underground hot spring and played around with metal frogs!

We also had the time to go visit our favorite neighbors from our old neighborhood, the Georges.
Shaunna and I are kindred spirits. I miss having her close by and love that she just GETS me,
like I GET her!
Hannah stayed with Isabelle and went with her to her dance recital.
Cute cousins!
playing card games on a Sunday afternoon. What would SWKimball say?
All the cool stuff the kids have made at school starts to come home.
I thought Charlie's minion was very cute!
Last Scout mtg/pack mtg til school starts again.
Cambria graduated from Seminary on May 17th and
from Monticello High School on May 20.
It's an exciting time for her! Moving on to bigger and better things.
Look at those gorgeous girls!
 Captive Hannah...
Curtis tied her sleeves together and she was like a T-Rex.
Very short arms that weren't very useful. LOL
More Sadie selfies. At least they are a good record of how much Kami is growing...
Memorial Day in Bluff. We had a very cool, rainy day and it was lovely. No gnats!

This time the boys got in on Sadie's fun.
Love Charlie's face in this one!
This one is Sadie's best look yet. HAHA!
