James' new nemesis

We went camping at Foy Lake for a couple of nights. The first night there, James tripped and his hands landed in the firepit. He had a pretty good burn on the palm and fingers of his left hand. After a lousy night's sleep, trying to keep an ice pack on his hand, he seemed fine the next day. However, he refused to go anywhere near the fire. If he wanted to go from one side to the other of our camping area he chose to go behind both the Suburban and the truck and come in the other side from the behind the chairs/people.
At one point, I was helping him get his supper and I put his plate on the table and got the cooler for him to sit on. I called him to me so I could get him eating and he cried,'No, Mom! Don't throw me in the fire!' I'm not sure what he thinks I was trying to do. Should I be insulted? I began to think he thought I was the wicked witch from Hansel and Gretel....:/
Later that evening we were sitting around the fire singing together and he wanted to be wrapped in his blanket and held. I told him to come to me and I held up his blanket so he could be wrapped. He accused me of trying to throw his blanket in the fire!
I think he learned a valuable lesson about being careful with fire. But I hope he gets over the idea that I'm trying to throw people and things inTO the fire!
